Our successes

Over the last five years CapitaliSE has offered relationship support to many of the organisations making enquiries.

Additionally we have helped over 70 social enterprises and voluntary and community organisations to access more than £5m of finance appropriate to their needs.

We help a wide range of organisations and so far our help has supported Artists’ groups, Community transport operators Development trusts, Disability organisations, Community-owned shops and pubs Childcare facilities. Reuse and recycling enterprises, Youth activity centres Facilities for homeless people, Enterprise training providers.

We have helped these organisations to access loans of between £15,000 and £325,000 for a wide range of purposes ie. property purchase, property refurbishment, capital equipment, vehicles, working capital, bridge and gap funding.

Achievements

Over the last five years (to the end of March 2009) CapitaliSE received 553 enquiries or referrals.

Of these enquiries, 95 (17%) received significant support. This varied from the general needs for financial forecasts, management accounts and business planning tasks, to the more specific needs such as legal structures, VAT advice, detailed costings, market research and other legal or technical issues. In several instances the total funding package needed to be considered and an element of grant funding was required.

Of the organisations supported, just over half were supported within the CapitaliSE project by the project manager. The remainder received external support.

As a result of the above support, to date 65 of these organisations have secured loans amounting to more than £4.3 million. The chart below indicates the level of growth in the take up of loans.

Adapt (North East)
Adapt North East new minibusAdapt (North East) is a disability organisation located in Tynedale and now covering the North East region. One of Adapt's main services is a community transport scheme including home-to-school contracts for disabled children and dial-a-ride shopping services for elderly less mobile people.
Adapt had an ageing fleet of vehicles which were in need of what was becoming constant repair and needed replacing. It was unrealistic to raise funds for vehicles and also this could have had an effect on how and who could use them.
CapitaliSE helped Adapt to develop a strategy and business plan taking account of local authority changes.  The plan included widening the area of operation and buying new vehicles.  A loan of £50,000 was raised and the business was put on a more sustainable footing.
